This power shield is able to provide 1.25 - 12V voltage range with 3A peak current so that you should not have two voltage supply as other Arduino needed. It also suitable for servo control and other non-standard components. The voltage measuring function help you to map the output voltage to Arduino analog pin 0.  And you could use Arduino digital Pin 13 as the controller to switch it on or off.
